Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

Opportunity: A social media type of platform where students from a particular school can interact with one and another.

Who: College Students (Particularly at UF)
What: College Students are all over the place with their clubs, activities, and etc. I feel like having a social media platform where students can interact with those in their class and being able to fit their active student life and groups can be really beneficial and save everyone a lot of time navigating through events and etc.
Why: We have a huge student population, and it is very hard to keep track of your life: be it active or not being able to connect with people as easily.

Hypothesis:

  • Who: I think it is mostly college students who have this need. They are trying to interact with other students and pursue an educational degree which is time consuming considering they need to manage their social and education. I do not think everyone in my "who" shares this need, but it is for those who wants a clearer way to get organized with those that they meet and not have to use a lot of social media to find out what they want.
  • What: How are people approaching their balance between academic life and social life? Is there any clearer way that they could manage their time? Would an app really connect those in the same degrees together? How beneficial is this opportunity?
  • Why: I believe some people are trying to connect those in the same classes, but it is hard and they have to search through Facebook, Reddit, etc. I also believe that some people have this need because they want to find groups that they can hang out with. Others would include the ability to organize their class life and social life and create connections. It could even build greater alumni networks.
Summary:

Due to my questioning of people, I was able to see the pros and cons of having this social media. Some people believe that it would be too regulated by the school and create error and mishaps. However, many people find that the app would  be a useful way to connect with everyone, and not have to create many groupmes if the chats already built in. I feel like this opportunity has a lot of potential and if executed correctly can create a unified University of Florida and let everyone's voice be heard.

  1. This is all good, as a college student, I have this need awareness and have even tried to seek out a solution so your opportunity definitely exists. I like the idea of an app being the solution to this problem, you really took into account the demographic when thinking about this problem. I've joined online groups on reddit, discord, and groupme as a fix to this problem and i'm pretty content with the solution so i think its pivotal for you to go out and do some surveys/interviews to ensure your opportunity exists in the capacity that it does. I had this need but am rather content with the solution I found, but others may not be. Go write a survey and distribute it to see gather more info on your opportunity!
