Forming an Opportunity Belief

Beginning Point: When I wake up, I begin my day. Throughout my day, I forget to drink water, then it becomes a struggle to drink all the water that a human should drink. They should drink at least two liters of water and especially more if they are athletic.  An opportunity that exist with this problem is that there could be some type of product that could encourage people to stay hydrated or even a substance that a person can take that can make them hydrated throughout the day or night.

My Belief:

  • The unmet need
    • To stay hydrated throughout the day and/or night.
  • Who has the need
    • Anyone who struggles to drink water
  • Where did the need come from?
    • I think it is a necessity to drink water, and sometimes we humans forget to drink water. We have apps to remind us, water bottles to remind us, but sometimes our busy schedules don't allow for us to take the time to drink water.
  • What are people doing to meet this need?
    • Have apps and being reminded to drink water throughout the day.
Prototypical Customers: Anyone who needs to drink water (everyone basically)

Iteration #1: Female, 18 year old; college student at UF
  • Exact Nature: She drinks lots of water, but does not drink the recommended amount. An average person should drink at least two liters of water a day, and she is busy throughout her day.
  • When do they become aware: She became more aware when I mentioned to her about the recommended amount. It is like a thought in her head like once a week, but it is really hard for her to consume the daily intake of water.
  • How long have they had the need: She did not realize some of the health issues that is associated with not drinking water. I think she became more aware after the conversation we had today.
  • How are they addressing their need and how satisfied they are with the solution: They are addressing their need by bringing a water bottle, but it does not help them as much. Sometimes, they forget to drink water.
Reflection: I learned that there is potential in the market. I was surprised that people did not know about the facts that they have a specific quantity that they should drink.

Iteration #2: Male, 20 year old; athlete

  • Exact Nature: He drinks a lot of water and drinks beyond the recommended amount. Since he is athletic, he needs to drink water in order to process through his day and activities.
  • When do they become aware: He was always aware of the situation; however, there are sometimes where he doesn't drink enough water and becomes weak. He is constantly thinking about it, but sometimes does not meet the necessary requirement.
  • How long have they had the need: They always realized the need, as they were a swimmer in high school. He is constantly trying to remind himself of drinking water.
  • How are they addressing their need and how satisfied they are with the solution: They are using an app to track down. They are not sure as there might be health risk and it is too good to be true.
Reflection: I realized that the substance will be too unbelievable to the consumers. Thus, there must be lots of testing with it in order to make the opportunity to succeed. Even if it seems like a great idea, there are going to be customers that are hesitant with purchasing it.

Iteration #3: Female, 20 year old; broke college student at UF

  • Exact Nature: She drinks lots of water in her standard; however, she knows that she does not meet the required amount. She did not know that she had to drink 2+ liters a day to stay hydrated.
  • When they become aware: When she was a freshman at UF, she thought she drank a lot of water. However, when she started walking to her class that is fifteen minutes long, she feels like she is going to pass out. When she drinks water, she becomes more hydrated and fine when she notices her need.
  • How long have they had the need: They have the need and tried to stay away from soda.
  • How are they addressing the need and how satisfied they are with the solution: By filling up her water bottle at school. She talks about how the substance might be too expensive, and if she forgets to drink water, what about the substance?
Reflection: I noticed how expensive that a substance might be, especially if it is a new idea that would keep people hydrated. She also brought a good point about forgetting to drink the substance. I feel like this concept is a unique idea, but it needs to be affordable and a way for people to be reminded to take the substance.

Summarize:
My original idea is still intact; however, maybe there should be an app that reminds the person to take it daily, so that way they can still be hydrated. My new opportunity is more accurate than where I started because I was able to take different people's perspective and edit it such as it being economic and the health risks associated with the substance. I think entrepreneurs should listen to the consumers that they are targeting. For example, sure I could target the athletic people with these substances, but they won't be frequent consumers. If I target consumers that see the need with drinking water, and they demand certain requirements to be met, I would sure to be listening to them, as I want to be profitable rather than losing consumers.

My Entrepreneur Story

A time where I have been exposed to entrepreneurship has to be when my friends brought Supreme outfits. They noticed that they could wait in line for the website, and they would buy more Supreme gears for them to make a profit. I was amazed about how they could do a business with such a wonderful concept. With this idea of them being able to sell their own service (their time and the ability to wait in line online for those that cannot purchase it on time), they were able to create profits using that. I was able to see what it was like to be an entrepreneur which sparks my interest in the field.  Even though this was a high school situation, it shows that entrepreneurship can happen in many forms and at any age, and you are never too old or too young to start a business.

 ENT3003 – Why I chose this Class

Even though I am an information system major, I feel like I could learn a lot from this field. I think it is necessary to venture off and see what a business composes of. If you only learn your part, you will not be able to collaborate, as well as a person who takes the initiative to learn more than just their part. I hope I can learn more about myself and what I want to do in my life, as well as see the thought process and what an Entrepreneur does.

Reflection

I found the list to be really challenging. I had to overly think about my routine, and it was hard for me to find certain situations to be annoying. I try not to write anything that anyone has done to me, as sometimes I find it to be reasonable rather than absurdly annoying. Most of my bug list stemmed from the decisions that I have made in my life. I realized that some of the "whys" are the same. I realized that I need to make more time for myself and remember what I want to accomplish. As I got closer with getting done of my bug list, it became a lot easier, as I realized that the problems that I hesitated to put down are still problems. I should not be afraid to list those problems, and I was able to accomplish the assignment by changing my mindset.
