20A - Growing Your Social Capital

Domain Expert
  1. An inspiring coder. He has coded his own application such as making games; thus he would know the in and out of making an application.
  2. I am filling this person with the Domain Expert because he seems very successful with his internships and coding.  He is also a TA for a coding class, and he would be really beneficial to have on my team to help make the application come true.
  3. This person was a long-time friend that I met freshman year. He has not help me with any of the other assignments of this course, so he would be really beneficial. Plus, I would trust him more because of our close relationship.
  4. He gave me the pros and cons of making his first game. He told me about how it was difficult for him because he had to learn a new language, new ways to project animation, and such as he has never done it before. If the idea is innovative, he would have to do a lot of research. I think all of these gave me a general sense that this idea  might take longer because of the many integrations that I want to do with the application such as connecting it to school work and opportunities.
  5. Having him in my network will allow me to work in confidential with my application. I know that he would not blurb out what I am doing which will not have any competitors try to steal my trade secret. I think he would be a beneficial asset in creating the application, as it is not as hard as making a game. He can tell me what codes to focus and how to adjust to the college audience as he is also a college student.
Market Expert

  1. A person from the Career Connection Center. They were also part of a leadership organization that helps incoming freshman adjust to college life and teaching them valuable skills such as programming and advertising.
  2. They are filling in the Market Expert because they know how to talk with college students. In fact, they provided some important ways to connect with college students such as sharing your experience and actively listen to their problems. He is a really good market expert.
  3. I found the person through Facebook message because we were both friends in committees. I thought he would be a perfect person to talk with about the business life with students, as he primarily works with students.
  4. They gave me advice on how to approach college students in their perspective. Especially since the C3 is a free resource, but time is of essence. If I can help students show that their time will not be wasted through my application and promote, it may be a success.
  5. Including this expert into my network would allow me to see what is the best way to connect with students. In fact, I could have him help me with this process, as I would want to do it with a group of people who know the ins and outs of the domain, market, and supplier.

    Supplier Expert
    1. On Linkedin, I found a person who works for Zoom Video  Communication. Their background includes working as an information system tech at a health care system. I find her really amazing reading through her profile and she has a similar major as me!
    2. I am filling her out as a supplier expert because Zoom is selling their service to many universities and other businesses to have conferences. They are doing really well, as they can host a ton of people under one conference.
    3. I found the person by looking up Zoom in Linkedin. I wanted to use Zoom because they are providing to college students through campus, and I feel like that someone of her caliber can help bring my entrepreneurship idea to life. I only followed her so far.
    4. There is no nature of exchange yet. However, I do want to contact her and ask about what it is like to work at Zoom, and how working with other schools and businesses have been doing.
    5. I think including her will allow me to bring my idea closer to reality, as Zoom contacts a lot of universities and businesses and help provide services to them which is what my social media idea is doing.
I think this experience will make me want to reach out to people more. Reading people's description on LinkedIn made me realized that I could follow a similar path as them. I could also ask them for advice and see if they would want to join my business idea. I think it differs a lot because I usually just rely on myself rather than asking people for advice. However, having everyone's input allows me to construct a better output of what I want.

    19A - Idea Napkin No. 2

    You
I am currently a student at the University of Florida. My major is information system. One of my talent is being tech-savvy and bringing people  together. My skills include being empathetic and open minded, and my experience is that I am a third year at the University of Florida involved with multiple organizations and clubs.

When I was a freshman, I realized how lost I was and how difficult it was to find clubs and organizations that I can relate to. It did not help that the details could be outdated or that they do not use a specific social media  platform anymore. I want  to be able to help students connect with each other and not struggle how I faced as a freshman. It would be a great way to connect with the  gator nation and be able  to track your schedule without too much obstacles blocking the students. I hope fir this application to be a core within the Gainesville community, creating many opportunities for  the students.

What Are you Offering to the Customers?
A  social media application that would allow the customers to connect with each other. They would use their student ID to be verified as a member of the gator nation and be able to build ever-lasting friendships and connect well. This application would streamline the whole approaching clubs and organizations and making time for the commitments by already implementing it in the students' applications.

Who Are You Offering It To?
My current segment are the students at the University of Florida. If it works, I could expand it to other campus. I would also like to perhaps focus on the Alumni network because it is very valuable and can allow for students to get more opportunities. I was reading other people's comments, and I realized how much of a staple that alumni are to the Gainesville community. By connecting with them and giving them accessible features, we would be able to thrive together especially in a professional sense. They are able to help guide the students onto their next step in life which is one of the main purpose of graduating college.

    Why do they Care?
As stated before, it is very  hard for students to connect with other students. Everyone comes from different backgrounds, and it is hard to approach those that you are not familiar with. This application would help the process and create positive feelings within each student.

    What Are Your Core Competences?
Other applications focus on different part of a human's life. My application is different because it focuses on the life of a student at the University. My application will be more stable compared to other applications and allow for students to meet other students easily. It would be a way for them to connect without  having to have many social media.

    Paragraph
I think all these questions fit together with what I want to express. I want there to be a way for students to be organized and connect with other students and alumni. I believe having this application will be useful for the students. I think it is because I am coming from a student perspective which is why I think all of these questions connect well.

    Feedback Memo
Someone told me to talk more about professional development and I incorporate more of that information into the who are you offering it to. I believe it is important to touch upon, and I wanted to start off with the students. However, I realized that once you get the alumni onto the application, it would be highly beneficial  and create a trend where students will realize  how useful it is and want to download it.

Also someone mentioned  how they like the idea about using student IDs. I think it is  very different from other applications because you need to be verified before you can be approved similar to having a gator ID. I like this concept, and I wanted to keep it.

All of the advice given was complimenting the idea, but I added more about myself in the You section.  I think this application would be a really cool idea.

    17A - Elevator Pitch No. 2

    Reflection
Okay, I was not able to turn in my assignment last time on time for the reflection. However, I will comment what I notice in my own video and how I feel like I can improve instead. I originally recorded the first assignment, but I was not able to turn it in because of technical problems.

Due to the circumstance that I was in, I was unable to prop my phone up. However, I believe that dressing like this to appeal to other college students was the most ideal as I show that I was like everyone else. Also, since social media uses a video concept, I believed that a video-like vlog would be appeal-able as a pitch.

I did a lot better, however I used the word "like" a lot. I felt less nervous and more coherent with the way that I was speaking. I was more expressive with my face, and I tried to relate the whole social media platform concept with my background.

There were times where I had to calm myself to think about what to say because it might have not been coherent. For the most part, I think I did a rather fine job compared to my last video, and I hope that I can further improve more and more.

There is nothing  that I can really change on my feedback because I did not receive any last time. However, I think I could have incorporate more movements within my speech. Hopefully, next time if I ever approach an elevator pitch, I will feel more confident, use less of the word "like" and incorporate more of a dynamic movement.

    18A - Create a Customer Avatar

    Who Are My Customers:
The customers that I am currently seeking are college students from the age of 18 to 24. They come from many different backgrounds. Some of them are lonely because they are not able to find a social and/or professional life at the university.

My customers are seeking a place where they can bond with other people from the university while keeping their social, professional, and educational life together.  It is really difficult for them to do so because everyone is from different backgrounds, and some find it hard to meet others.

Their family life can range from all sort . They could be divorced, single, married, and etc. As long as they are part of the university, they are considered as customers. If this app can bring people together and allow them to link their social and professional together, they are able to create ever-lasting friendships and such.

It would be hard to implement an application for the alumnis because they would want to be able to connect with the friendships that they have. However, if this application begins during a school year, it would convert people who are going to become alumnis to be part of the app.

I think it was hard for me to meet friends at first while developing myself. I feel like an application like this would help me so much in my life in terms of joining clubs and organization and managing my time better. I think it is not a coincidence that  I match with my customers because these product development comes  from what is missing in my life or what I could have received in order to better the quality of my life.

I would be so happy if an application like this comes in real life, and I would not have to download other social medias in order to connect. I could easily connect with someone by the app rather than relying on tons of other applications.

Assignment 16: What's your Secret Sauce

    My Secret Sauce

    1. I think I am empathetic because I like to approach situations and conflicts through more than one side. I can easily adjust and see other people's point rather than being stubborn and thinking that only one point is right.
    2. I grew up in a single-parent household. My mom took care of me and my five other siblings. I learned to not be greedy with the stuff that I want because family is important and I cannot be selfish with what I want.
    3. I am very well-off with technology in terms of typing. I actually won business keyboarding in middle school and high school and going to national because of it. It was a really fun time, and typing fast is what I was known for.
    4. I think I am pretty involved with the stuff that I love. I have huge passion and overly committed to the point where I get burnt out. It is a double edge sword, but I really enjoy the hobbies and activities that I commit.
    5. I like to be proactive with my work. I do not like to slack away because if I slack then nothing is going to accomplished.
My Friends' Comments about My Secret Sauce
    • Darwin
      • He said I was very passionate about my hobbies. I am very dedicated and do not slack off which I very much appreciate hearing!
    • Ethan
      • He called me studious and I was surprised to hear that because I do not spend as much time as I want to due to my involvement with many of the clubs and activities.
    • Henry
      • He talks about my involvement and tells me how dedicated I am! I am very appreciative to hear that, as he is my little and I try to encourage people to be involved with the clubs that I am involved in!
    • A friend (She did not want to be recorded at the moment, so I was unable to do so!)
      • She talked about how fast I typed and how I "thunder through the keyboard." I am actually happy that someone acknowledges it because I type like 140 words per minute or around that range! She also complimented my leadership skills.
    • Lisa
      • Lisa mentions where I do not brag to people about my grades or anything which I am very appreciative to hear! It relates back to the part where I learned not to be greedy about the stuff that I desire.

    Reflection
I think hearing all of these from other people helps me validate my own opinions about myself. I sometimes think that I am not doing enough, but hearing people talk about me in their honest opinion makes me happy rather than sad! I hope to strive to do better and become a better reflection of myself rather than stopping at any point.

Assignment 15: Figuring out Buyer's Behavior No. 2

  1. Pick a Segment

  2. I will be readjusting my segment and find people who are trying to get active with clubs and organizations, but they are not sure how.

  3. Interviews [ I provided three alternative decisions: social media, tabling, and word-of-mouth]

    1. Interview 1
      1. A girl who is seeking a club or organization that she can follow through the vast social media presence
        1. When she does her assessments, she looks around on Facebook and Instagram. If they do not have a high social media presence, she assumes that the organization is not currently active. She does not take the time to go to the general body meetings that the organization has which may create misunderstandings. Some clubs do not post often on Facebook and/or Instagram because they have followers that regularly attend the clubs. She only attends clubs if she feels that she has a high chance of meeting people rather than going to a club that has no social media presence.
    2. Interview 2
      1. A boy who does not like using any social media
        1. The guy searches for clubs and organization through tabling, flyering, and word of mouth. It is very difficult for him to get involved because he finds out information last minute about the club and their activities. He listens to his friends about what clubs he should try and go to which is difficult since he finds out the day of. Since he does not heavily use social media, it is hard for him to keep updated, as he is not quickly updated in real-time.
    3. Interview 3
      1. A medical student who seeks clubs within her field
        1. She is a medical student, and she finds it really hard to keep to date with all of the clubs. She has many of the clubs and organizations followed through her social media, but it ends up being really lacking because she does not put it right on her calendar. She wants clubs where she can easily catch up with, but due to the sparse information of clubs scattered throughout the internet, it is very hard for her. .

  4. Draw Conclusion

    1. This segment is very scattered through if they use social media or not. There does not seem a cohesive way where clubs can regularly update their followers through all of their social media platform. I think an application that streamlined all of the involvement would make many of the students' lives and allows them to adjust better at the University of Florida and feel at home.
