My Belief:
- The unmet need
- To stay hydrated throughout the day and/or night.
- Who has the need
- Anyone who struggles to drink water
- Where did the need come from?
- I think it is a necessity to drink water, and sometimes we humans forget to drink water. We have apps to remind us, water bottles to remind us, but sometimes our busy schedules don't allow for us to take the time to drink water.
- What are people doing to meet this need?
- Have apps and being reminded to drink water throughout the day.
Prototypical Customers: Anyone who needs to drink water (everyone basically)
Iteration #1: Female, 18 year old; college student at UF
- Exact Nature: She drinks lots of water, but does not drink the recommended amount. An average person should drink at least two liters of water a day, and she is busy throughout her day.
- When do they become aware: She became more aware when I mentioned to her about the recommended amount. It is like a thought in her head like once a week, but it is really hard for her to consume the daily intake of water.
- How long have they had the need: She did not realize some of the health issues that is associated with not drinking water. I think she became more aware after the conversation we had today.
- How are they addressing their need and how satisfied they are with the solution: They are addressing their need by bringing a water bottle, but it does not help them as much. Sometimes, they forget to drink water.
Reflection: I learned that there is potential in the market. I was surprised that people did not know about the facts that they have a specific quantity that they should drink.
Iteration #2: Male, 20 year old; athlete
- Exact Nature: He drinks a lot of water and drinks beyond the recommended amount. Since he is athletic, he needs to drink water in order to process through his day and activities.
- When do they become aware: He was always aware of the situation; however, there are sometimes where he doesn't drink enough water and becomes weak. He is constantly thinking about it, but sometimes does not meet the necessary requirement.
- How long have they had the need: They always realized the need, as they were a swimmer in high school. He is constantly trying to remind himself of drinking water.
- How are they addressing their need and how satisfied they are with the solution: They are using an app to track down. They are not sure as there might be health risk and it is too good to be true.
Reflection: I realized that the substance will be too unbelievable to the consumers. Thus, there must be lots of testing with it in order to make the opportunity to succeed. Even if it seems like a great idea, there are going to be customers that are hesitant with purchasing it.
Iteration #3: Female, 20 year old; broke college student at UF
- Exact Nature: She drinks lots of water in her standard; however, she knows that she does not meet the required amount. She did not know that she had to drink 2+ liters a day to stay hydrated.
- When they become aware: When she was a freshman at UF, she thought she drank a lot of water. However, when she started walking to her class that is fifteen minutes long, she feels like she is going to pass out. When she drinks water, she becomes more hydrated and fine when she notices her need.
- How long have they had the need: They have the need and tried to stay away from soda.
- How are they addressing the need and how satisfied they are with the solution: By filling up her water bottle at school. She talks about how the substance might be too expensive, and if she forgets to drink water, what about the substance?
Reflection: I noticed how expensive that a substance might be, especially if it is a new idea that would keep people hydrated. She also brought a good point about forgetting to drink the substance. I feel like this concept is a unique idea, but it needs to be affordable and a way for people to be reminded to take the substance.
Summarize:
My original idea is still intact; however, maybe there should be an app that reminds the person to take it daily, so that way they can still be hydrated. My new opportunity is more accurate than where I started because I was able to take different people's perspective and edit it such as it being economic and the health risks associated with the substance. I think entrepreneurs should listen to the consumers that they are targeting. For example, sure I could target the athletic people with these substances, but they won't be frequent consumers. If I target consumers that see the need with drinking water, and they demand certain requirements to be met, I would sure to be listening to them, as I want to be profitable rather than losing consumers.
i think you picked a very prevalent but challenging issue a LOT of people have. Hydration is so important, especially in hot states like Florida where dehydration often occurs. I think a lot of people have tried to tackle this problem (with apps, making water easily accessible, certain water bottles with demarkations for the recommended amount etc. but maybe failed to reach consumers who these tactics just may not work for. I have an app that reminds me to drink water, but honestly i'm picky about my water and because its so often tasteless i find myself looking for an alternative that will still hydrate me but also taste better and give me the health benefits that water would've. Hope this helps
ReplyDeleteHi! I really like your topic because, honestly, it's something that I often have a problem with. Whether it's just forgetting to drink water or not being in the mood for it, I often to go sleep dehydrated and wake up multiple times in the night to chug a lot of water. I think most of your interviewee's became aware of this problem when you started asking them questions about it because it isn't something that we often think about. Great article!
